PhD Program in Dental Medicine – Overview

The PhD program at the School of Dentistry, University of Zagreb has been offered since 2007/2008.
It was launched following an international audit and approval by the National Council for Higher Education and Science.

Program Objectives

Develop a scientific mindset and identify key research questions.
Train students to plan, conduct and critically evaluate research.
Build skills in scientific writing, publishing and presenting results.
Translate research findings into innovations that advance the profession and benefit society.
Support knowledge transfer to public health, clinical practice, the dental industry and related fields.

Program Structure

The curriculum is linked to scientific projects and supported by continuous mentorship from leading experts.
Covers areas within Biomedicine and Health Sciences: basic and clinical dental sciences, public health and health care.

Study Components & ECTS

Students first acquire core methodological and research skills, followed by specialized coursework.
Since 2016/2017, the program emphasizes scientific research:
- 36 ECTS – coursework
- 144 ECTS – research activities, conference presentations and publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
