Description:
The program of the study of Oral surgery 1 directs students toward the first clinical examination of patients, especially with regard to oral surgery issues and the differential diagnosis of pathological changes in the oral cavity. During the study a student is expected to encounter and get to know all the techniques of local anesthesia and possible complications, tooth extraction techniques and treatment of all potential complications during and after extraction. Students are expected to get familiar and to recognize all important clinical signs of odontogenic inflammation and methods of treatment including tooth trepanation, intraoral incisions methods and fundamentals of antibiotic therapy. During the clinical practical work a student must master basics of radiological diagnostic analysis in oral surgery, learn the indications and contraindications for surgery (apicotomy and alveotomy), recognize cystic and cyst-like lesions and know the principles of surgical treatment of cysts of the jaws and surrounding tissues. The study encompasses the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant changes, timely detection of premalignant and malignant lesions. Students need to get acquainted with indications and possibilities in pre-prosthetic surgical procedures. Obligatory assisting in operations will help in understanding of the most important and frequent oral surgical procedures.
